Deer and Doe Plantain T-Shirt Take Two : : Vogue 1355
Oooh…looky me…wearing my jammies at the beach. Okay, they’re not actual pyjamas, but I am looking decidedly casual. Once again, I’m wearing harem pants…you can see my first pair here. These ones are made with a poly/lycra blend…definitely not my first choice…but I love how beautifully the blue complements the blue in my t-shirt. Not much more to say, except that I still think this silhouette is fun. Now…moving on to my Deer and Doe Plantain…
My colour blocked t-shirt is Deer and Doe’s Plantain T-Shirt and it’s proving to be a favourite. I’ve made….ahem….five of them. You can download it for free here. One of the things I really like about this tee is the slightly A-line silhouette. The only adjustments I made were to raise the neckline 1-3/4″, and make short sleeves. The bright floral cotton knit from Fabricana caught my eye right away. It was pricey…about $30.00 meter…but I had to have it! I bought just .3m with the intention of using it for colour blocking. I ended up with enough for two t-shirts…there’s a small pic of the second one in the collage.
I’m still tweaking a few things here on the blog…and yes…the About page is nearly done. I am aware that the feature image of my posts is not showing up for those of you that receive my posts by email. It’s on my list of things that make me go hmmmm.
The bee-you-tee-ful setting is none other than English Bay, one of Vancouver’s most well known beaches. Urban, popular and a great spot to watch the sun set. Stanley Park, a sliver of the West End, and the North Shore Mountains are in the background. Having grown up in Vancouver, I’ve always taken for granted the logs on our beaches. It wasn’t until out of town visitors commented on them, that it dawned on me….not every beach has strategically placed logs on them. They’re not just a conversation piece,….they make great backrests, windbreaks, and privacy walls.
Okey-dokey…I’ll be back soon with my Refashioners 2016 garment. See you then!

This looks SO comfy!
I love the bold strip of fabric in the middle.
I’ve never even noticed those logs on the beach!
bisous

I saw a similar t-shirt on Pinterest a long time ago and this seemed the right opportunity to give it a go. Next time in Van, you’ll have to check out English Bay, just for the logs.
Great new blog format, Sue!
I love the t-shirts, and I still fondly remember my purple harem pants jumpsuit from the 80’s, which was SOOOO comfortable to wear.
And yes, logs on the beach are not to be taken for granted. I would love to have some on our beach. Or even some interesting driftwood. Perhaps the occasional stick to throw for the dog…
Thanks Cheryl! Great to see you!
LOL…I have to agree that your beach’s beauty lies in it’s simplicity! I never thought about the ‘boredom’ factor for dogs…but the thing is you need trees before you can have logs…
Thirty bucks a meter? Good one. A Vogue pattern with Versace – makes complete sense. I adore this fabric and it was worth every penny. Five shirts? Hahaha. When you’re on a roll, especially for something you know you’re going to wear….
These photos are stunning. You really caught that golden hour. I should mosey down there sometime. Thanks for the reminder.
Yes…I did not buy for the name, LOL. It was, and is, always about the print and the colour! Now…git yourself down there.
Gosh, Sue. I don’t know why you even bother using patterns. I think you have a knack for designing your own patterns. You always tweak them to make them your own and you find the BEST fabric!!! You’re a designer for sure. Jammmies on the beach? Heck yeah! Jammies EVERYWHERE!!!
LOL…I dunno, maybe I’m lazy. ’tis true that I tweak, tweak, tweak, but that always seems easier than starting from scratch.
Hi Sue, happy to see the new blog look and see your latest creation 🙂 Love the casual outfit, you look great and always enjoy your beautiful pictures. I downloaded the Plantain t-shirt pattern some months back but never have time to sew it. Hope I will make it one day …
The harem pants is perfect match with the t-shirt 🙂
Hi Hana! I love that my comments section can now do little smiley faces! Please, please make yourself a Plantain t-shirt. You will love it!
I love them both, but especially the one with the stripes, very clever, I’m going to copy and try some mixing and matching. Interesting the see your beach with logs, I haven’t come across a beach with such facilities, definitely useful
Thanks Barbara! I remember, it was your Plantain post that really got me thinking about making the pattern for myself. Sure happy I did. It’s a very flattering fit for me.
You look so cool and relaxed. Great photos, great background. And no, we don’t all have logs on the beach (nowhere in The Netherlands, France, Italy etc.). Indeed a smart idea…. when you have logs.
The two T-shirts are very good. The fact that you sew a differtent part, horizontally and vertically into the fabric is so difficult in T-shirt material (to my knowledge).
And to say ….The ” only” adjustments I made were to raise the neckline 1-3/4″, and make short sleeves…. What do you mean ” the only” ? That is major.
Anyway fun.
As for the blog.. I am still having little things to adjust with my blog as well. And I only went from WordPress template to another WordPress template.

Yep…ya gotta have the logs.
Yes, there is a knack to handling t-shirt fabric properly. I was happy that my stripes aligned well on the striped version!
You look amazing Sue!! I love the tee – and you look fantastic in your harem pants too!
Thanks Heather! Big hugs to you!!!
Those look so comfy! And I can’t blame you a bit for wanting some of that floral material, it is so pretty and I love how you used it.
Thanks Flo. Now that I think of it, I actually did not buy the fabric the first time I saw it. Had to go back for it, hoping it was still available. Thank goodness it was!
As always, Sue, your sewing skills are evident, the t-shirt and jammie bottoms (ha!) look fabulous, and your photos are gorgeous! I’m slowly catching up with everyone, and it’s lovely to see you. xx
Lovely to see you making the rounds Curtise! This is a particularly pretty Vancouver view.
