Mystery Blogger Tour
Hallo hallo people.
Gosh. I can’t remember when I last wrote a bloggy award post. It’s been more than a hot minute, that’s for sure.
The Mystery Blogger Tour has been weaving it’s way through the sewing community over the past few months and I’ve been quite enjoying learning more about my favourite bloggers. When the lovely Coco from Coco’s Loft nominated me to participate, I was 100% in. Here’s the award description:
“Mystery Blogger Award is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious post. Their blog not only captivates, it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging, and they do it with so much love and passion.” Created by: Okoto Enigma
Eep….high accolades indeed. Thank you so very much for tipping your hat in my direction Coco! You all read Coco’s Loft, yes? Three reasons I love reading her blog….The setting: Florida. Sunshine. Candid photos of amazing critters in her tropical garden. The makes: Lots of focus on hot weather garments, obvs. A variety of garments and fabrications…her colourful maxi dresses make my heart sing. Unabashed love for both Big 4 and Indie patterns. The details: Coco takes meticulous notes. Looking for a pattern review? The detailed blog posts on Coco’s Loft are a must read. Coco and I are pretty much completely opposite body types, but I still learn sooooo much when I read her posts.

Three things about me:
With no prior musical exposure, I started harp lessons at age 53. Scary? Terrifying. That said, I’m still at it and loving every minute.
My first co-starring role in a school play was in grade two. My best friend and I presented an original production. The only thing I remember about it is that I wore my favourite long flannel nightgown. I studied drama until senior high then dropped it in favour of sewing. If I knew then what I know now…that Vancouver would become Hollywood North…I may have chosen differently.
I’m that one….afraid of heights, deep water, amusement park rides, food that moves….
All righty. Up next….five questions for me to answer…
Whose sewing or style most inspires or influences your sewing?
This question is always hard for me to answer in large part because I think I draw inspiration from sooooo many blogs, both sewing related and personal style. Here’s just a few:
Oonaballoona her enthusiasm for colour and pattern always inspires me.
My Small Wardrobe not a sewing blog, but her personal style inspires me and influences my sewing.
Secondo Piano Sewing artistry. That. is. all.
How often do you bin a garment and throw up your hands in defeat?
Rarely. Very rarely. I think my most binable {okay so that isn’t a word…} garment has gotta be bras. If you’ve sewn bras…you know.
How often do you pull the latter out of the bin and keep going?
Well…with bras you sew the entire thing and then you throw it in the bin…hahaha. Um…but totally true, dat.
What is your favourite thing about your sewing space?
My favourite thing would have to be the light. My sewing space is in my dining room, and not just a corner of the room as I had, rather optimistically, planned. Yep…I’ve managed to commandeer the entire room, corner to corner with all things sewing related. But the light.
How many sewing machines do you own?
I’d like to say I own two machines. But. When I replaced my three thread serger with a four thread model, I just couldn’t let go. So. I own a Bernina 801 that I bought in 1981. I still have the returned cheque for it…the only old bit of banking I’ve ever kept. I have a three thread Janome Mylock {still not sure if I should pronounce it Ja-gnome or Ja-gnome-E} that I purchased around…oh…1990. It works a dream for finishing the foam edges on bras and I love that it’s always threaded in the right colour and ready to go. About five years ago I found a Janome Mylock 4 thead serger on Craigslist and bought it for a song…basically I could have spent more on a nice dinner out. My guess is that it’s a year or two newer than my 3-thread; basic, a workhorse, and everything I need.
My nominations…
My nominees inspire me and motivate me. I’d love it if you join in, but please don’t feel in any way obligated.

Five Questions For My Nominees:
I’m always interested in what’s happening in the kitchen. Do you cook and if so, what’s your favourite dish to make.
What is your most memorable sewing project?
If you were challenged with sewing only 5 patterns for an entire year {don’t worry, it’ll never happen}, what patterns would you choose?
What are your must have sewing tools?
If you were offered an all-expenses paid holiday anywhere in the world, where would you go?
All righty peeps, that’s a wrap. Thank you for reading. I’ll be back to my regular program of standing awkwardly in stuff I’ve made soon.

I loved when these awards went around back in 2009 when blogs were so new – I always like learning more about the people I “know” through blogging. Having met you, this was a nice insight into you. You should get involved in acting locally! Hope you’re enjoying your summer, Sue! Woo, hot enough for ya?
We do have a local theatre very near by and I have thought of joining in on the fun, but not seriously. Maybe I should?
Sheila, you could begin a round of bloggy awards…create your own, or pick up with the Mystery Blogger Awards. They’re particularly helpful to newer bloggers I think!
Oh Sue – I’m totally blushing and very appreciative. And I love your post! The harp. wow. At about 53, I asked my local music store about learning the cello. They pretty much told me to continue playing the piano. Now when I see Amy on Big Bang Theory with her harp, I’ll think of you 🙂
Love your spirit and style, girl.
Tee Hee…I think of me when I see Amy playing her harp too. The cello was the ‘other’ instrument that I was interested in learning. It wasn’t until after I started harp that I learned that cello is about the most difficult instrument to learn.
You know I’m a big fan of your blog and your work even though I don’t comment for every post. It’s always fun to know more….Harp? Heaven right here on earth. And thanks for the links to other great seamstresses.
Yep…totally got it Barbara. Of course, when you do post, I love that too!
Well darling, as far as I am concerned you should win this award. You qualify.
Funny to read about your drama experience. I love acting, and secretly I thought I might be good (never proven otherwise), but I chose a career with money instead. Never regretted it though. I do not like poverty.

‘Tis true…it’s only the few that earn a really grand income from acting. It really is for the love of it! I could imagine you on stage and doing very well at it!
Thanks for the nomination and congrats on yours!! Love your questions, I’m on it I promise! Xxx
Thanks Sarah!
